KidPoint Series: Sermon on the Mount

This month in KidPoint, we are stepping into one of the most powerful teachings of Jesus found in the Bible: The Sermon on the Mount! In Matthew 5–7, Jesus teaches what life looks like when we live as part of God’s Kingdom and what it means to follow Him every day.

Through this series, kids will discover that Jesus shows us a better way to live, and when we follow Him, our lives begin to look more like His Kingdom. His words invite us into a different way of life that reflects God’s heart and helps us follow Him in real, everyday situations.

Each week, kids will hear directly from Jesus and explore practical truths they can apply to their everyday lives:

Week 1: I am blessed when I live God’s way! (Matthew 5:1–12 — The Beatitudes)
Kids will learn that being “blessed” in God’s Kingdom doesn’t always look the way the world expects. Jesus teaches that people who trust and follow God are truly blessed because they belong to Him and live under His care!

Week 2: I can show others what Jesus is like! (Matthew 5:13–16 — Salt & Light)
Kids will discover that Jesus calls His followers to be salt and light in the world. Salt preserves and heals, and light helps people see clearly. The way we live can point others to Jesus and help them see God’s goodness through our actions.

Week 3: I can choose to love everyone! (Matthew 5:38–48 — Love Your Enemies )
Kids will learn that Jesus calls us to love in a different way than the world. Even when it’s hard, we can choose kindness, forgiveness, and love because God first loved us.

Week 4: I can do the right thing even when no one is watching! (Matthew 6:1–4 — Giving to Those in Need)
Kids will learn that God cares about the heart behind our actions. We don’t do the right thing just to be noticed by others. We do it to honor God, who sees everything and is pleased when we choose what is right!

Week 5: I can talk and listen to God! (Matthew 6:5–14 — Prayer)
Kids will discover that Jesus teaches us how to pray. Prayer is not about fancy words or being seen by others, it is talking and listening to God! Jesus also shows us through His example that prayer is a real relationship with the Father, where we can be honest, dependent, and connected to God.

Memory Verse

“In the same way, let your light shine so others can see it. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will bring glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:16 (NIRV)

Our prayer is that this series helps your child not only learn what Jesus said, but begin to live it out in their everyday life! As they hear the teachings of Jesus, we hope they will discover that following Him leads to a life that is joyful, strong, meaningful, and built on something that lasts!

Family Table Talk Questions

Use these questions at the dinner table, in the car, or before bed to continue the conversation at home:

  • What is one thing Jesus taught you this week?
  • Which teaching from Jesus has stood out to you the most so far?
  • How can our family live out what Jesus is teaching us together?
