Small Groups are the best thing we do.
We believe real life change happens in the context of authentic relationships, which is why we are a church made up of Small Groups. In the Bible, they worshiped in the temple, but personal ministry happened “house to house.”
Top 10 Reasons People Don’t Join a Small Group
(and Why They’re Wrong!)
“I don’t have time.”
- Translation: I have time for Netflix, football, and TikTok… but not for spiritual growth.
- Debunk: Small groups don’t take your time—they give you life back. Relationships > scrolling.
“I don’t know anyone.”
- Translation: I’ll stay lonely until I magically know everyone.
- Debunk: Small groups are literally designed to fix that. You show up not knowing people, and leave with family.
“I’m not spiritual enough.”
- Translation: Church is for perfect people only.
- Debunk: Small groups aren’t for the “Bible All-Stars.” They’re hospitals for the broken, not museums for the holy.
“I tried one before, and it wasn’t for me.”
- Translation: One bad taco, so I gave up on Mexican food forever.
- Debunk: Not every group is the same. Try again—you just haven’t found your flavor
“I already come to church on Sundays.”
- Translation: I want deep friendships without the risk of small talk.
- Debunk: Yep—it might feel awkward for 5 minutes. After that, you’ll be laughing, eating, and doing life together.
“It’ll be awkward.”
- Translation: One meal a week is enough for me spiritually.
- Debunk: Sundays inspire you. Small groups transform you. Big church is rows. Small groups are circles.
“People might find out the real me.”
- Translation: If people knew me, they wouldn’t love me.
- Debunk: Actually, when people do know the real you, they love you more. That’s the Gospel at work.
“It won’t fit my schedule.”
- Translation: I’m busier than Jesus, who somehow made time for 12 guys.
- Debunk: We have groups every day of the week, online and in person. There’s literally one that fits.
“It’s just another church program.”
- Translation: Relationships are optional.
- Debunk: Small groups aren’t a program—they’re the church being the church. Acts 2:46 says they met in homes and in the temple courts.
“I don’t need it.”
- Translation: I’m strong enough to do life alone.
- Debunk: Even Jesus had a small group (the 12). If the Son of God didn’t do life alone, neither should you.
