This month in KidPoint, we’re kicking off the new year with a brand new series called New Beginnings—a journey through the book of Genesis! Throughout January, kids will discover how God has been bringing new beginnings from the very start of creation. From the first moments of the world to the lives of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, each story points to a God who restores, renews, and invites us into His big plan.
Our memory verse reminds us of the fresh start we have because of Jesus:
“When anyone lives in Christ, the new creation has come. The old is gone! The new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIrV)
What better way to begin a new year than by celebrating the new life God offers us? Each week, kids will learn an important truth from a key story in Genesis:
Week 1: Jesus makes everything right!
Genesis 1:1–3:15; 2 Corinthians 5:17–21
Kids will explore God’s perfect creation, how sin entered the world, and how Jesus came to make all things new again.
Week 2: I can trust God’s promises!
Genesis 13:14–18; 21:1–6; 22:1–18
Through God’s covenant with Abraham, kids will see that God always keeps His promises—even when the wait feels long.
Week 3: Obeying God shows I trust Him!
Genesis 22:1–18; Hebrews 11:17–19
Kids will learn how Abraham showed his faith through obedience and how our choices can show we trust God too.
Week 4: God can heal broken things!
Genesis 25–33
From Jacob and Esau’s complicated relationship to their eventual reconciliation, kids will see how God brings restoration even to messy, hurting situations.
Throughout January, our hope is that every child learns that God has always been a God of new beginnings. No matter what yesterday looked like, He offers us hope, a fresh start, and a chance to grow closer to Him!
Family Table Talk Questions:
1. What is something new you hope God helps you with this year?
2. What is one way you can show God you trust Him this week?
3. When something gets messed up or feels broken, who can you talk to for help—and how does God help us too?
