The campfire is still burning in KidPoint this month as we continue our summer series, Campfire Stories!
Throughout July, kids will discover that God’s plan has been unfolding from the very beginning, and that plan leads to Jesus! As they explore stories of people from the Old Testament who are found in Jesus’ family line in Matthew 1, they’ll learn that God uses ordinary people to accomplish His extraordinary purposes, and He invites us to be part of His plan too!
Our memory verse for the series reminds us of this powerful truth:
“But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever. What he wants to do will last for all time.” — Psalm 33:11, NIRV
Each week, kids will meet a different person from Jesus’ family line and discover how God was working through their lives to accomplish His plan.
Week 1: God can use anyone in His plan! (Joshua 2 — Rahab)
Rahab wasn’t someone most people would have expected God to use, but she chose to trust Him and became part of His story. Kids will learn that God can use anyone in His plan, including them!
Week 2: I can lead people to know God’s truth! (2 Kings 22; 23:1–3; 23:24–25 — Josiah)
Even though Josiah was young, God used him to help people return to His Word. Kids will learn that they don’t have to wait until they’re older to make a difference. God can use them right now to point others toward Him!
Week 3: God has a plan for me! (1 Samuel 8; 10:1; 15:35; 16:1–13 — David)
When God chose David to be king, he was the least likely candidate in the eyes of others, but God saw something different! Kids will discover that God created them with purpose and that He has a plan for their lives, just as He did for David’s!
Week 4: God’s plan is bigger than I can see! (Ruth 1–4 — Ruth)
Ruth’s story is filled with ordinary choices that became part of God’s extraordinary plan. Kids will learn that even when they can’t see the whole picture, God is always working behind the scenes. His plan is bigger than they can imagine and He can be trusted every step of the way!
Throughout this series, kids will see that each of these people played an important role in God’s plan to send Jesus. Their stories remind us that God is faithful to His promises, works through ordinary people, and invites each of us to be part of what He is doing.
