This month in KidPoint, we’re in a brand-new series all about forgiveness: What it really is and why it matters so much. Forgiveness isn’t just saying “sorry”, and forgiveness isn’t just pretending something didn’t happen. According to God’s Word, forgiveness is choosing to let go of the hurt and not stay mad. It’s deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to “pay” for it. That’s a hard thing to do—but here’s the good news: God shows us what true forgiveness looks like, because He forgives us first!
God’s forgiveness is BIG. Bigger than we could ever imagine! And when we begin to understand how much He has forgiven us, it changes us from the inside out. It leads us to love Him more, and it helps us forgive others the way He forgives us.
Our memory verse this month reminds us of this powerful truth:
“Put up with one another. Forgive one another if you are holding something against someone. Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you.” (Colossians 3:13 NIRV)
Each week, kids are learning how to live out forgiveness in their everyday lives:
- Week 1: Because God forgives big, we can love Him big! (Luke 7:36-50)
- Week 2: God’s forgiveness changes us! (Luke 19:1-10)
- Week 3: God can help me to forgive others! (Genesis 42-45)
- Week 4: God will always forgive me! (John 21:1-19)
Our prayer is that every child leaves KidPoint this month knowing that God’s forgiveness is always available, no matter what they’ve done. And when kids embrace that truth, they can begin to extend the same forgiveness to others—bringing peace, healing, and love into their relationships.
Family Table Talk Questions:
- Why do you think forgiveness is important?
- How has God forgiven you in a big way?
- Who is someone you might need to forgive right now?
- How does it feel to know God will always forgive you?
