KidPoint Series: Sermon on the Mount

This month in KidPoint, we’re continuing our journey through one of Jesus’ greatest teachings: The Sermon on the Mount! Throughout Matthew 5–7, Jesus shows us what life looks like when we choose to follow Him and live as part of God’s Kingdom.

Last month, kids began discovering that Jesus shows us a better way to live. This month, they’ll continue exploring His teachings as they learn to trust God instead of worry, let God change their own hearts before judging others, treat people with love and kindness, and build their lives on Jesus by hearing AND doing what He says!

Each week, kids will continue hearing directly from Jesus and learning practical truths they can apply to their everyday lives:

Week 1: I can trust God to take care of me!

(Matthew 6:25–34 — Don’t Worry)

Kids will discover that Jesus doesn’t simply tell us to stop worrying, He invites us to trust our Heavenly Father instead. God knows exactly what we need, cares deeply for us, and wants us to bring every worry to Him in prayer. As we seek God’s Kingdom first, we can trust that He will faithfully take care of us!

Week 2: I can let God change me first before I judge others!

(Matthew 7:1–5 — To Judge or Not to Judge)

Kids will learn that before pointing out someone else’s mistakes, Jesus calls us to let God work in our own hearts first. Through the help of the Holy Spirit, we can grow in humility, show grace to others, and become more like Jesus every day!

Week 3: I can treat others the way I want to be treated!

(Matthew 7:12–14 — The Golden Rule)

Kids will discover that following Jesus changes the way we treat people. Instead of thinking only about ourselves, we can choose kindness, respect, patience, and love because God’s love has changed our hearts!

Week 4: I can hear and do what Jesus says!

(Matthew 7:21–27 — A House Well Built)

Kids will learn that KNOWING what Jesus teaches is only the beginning. Wise followers of Jesus put His words into practice! As kids choose to obey what Jesus says, they’ll build a strong foundation that helps them stand firm through every challenge life brings.

Memory Verse

“But put God’s kingdom first. Do what he wants you to do. Then all those things will also be given to you.” – Matthew 6:33 (NIRV)

This verse reminds us that when we make God our highest priority and choose to follow His ways, we can trust Him to take care of everything else. Instead of living with fear or worry, Jesus invites us to focus on His Kingdom and rest in God’s faithfulness!

Our prayer is that this series continues to help your child not only understand the teachings of Jesus, but put them into practice every day. As they grow in their faith, we hope they’ll discover that following Jesus leads to a life that is strong, joyful, full of purpose, and built on a foundation that will never fail!

Family Table Talk Questions

Use these questions at the dinner table, in the car, or before bed to continue the conversation at home:

  • What is one teaching from Jesus that has encouraged or challenged you?
  • What is something you’re worried about that we can pray about together?
  • How can our family put Jesus’ teachings into practice this week?
  • What is one way we can build our lives on Jesus together?
